Driver dies in fiery Rancho Mirage wreck

A driver was killed after hitting a tree in Rancho Mirage early Friday morning, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The wreck happened at 2:02 a.m. on Morningside Drive and Frank Sinatra Drive.

At some point, the vehicle caught fire, a department spokesperson added.

Morningside Drive was closed between Frank Sinatra Drive and Country Club Drive.

Additional details were not announced including the cause of the wreck and the identity of the driver killed.
