One person dead after crash knocks down power pole in Indio

One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash that ended up knocking down a power pole Sunday afternoon in Indio.

The crash was initially reported at around 2:30 p.m. on Indio Boulevard, east of Flower.

According to the Indio Police Dept., a black pickup truck did a u-turn in front of a Jeep. This caused the Jeep to lose control and run into a power pole.

The driver of the Jeep was ejected. They suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead in the hospital, authorities confirmed.

The driver of the pickup truck was hospitalized, their status remains unknown as of Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed the driver has been cooperative with officers.

Westbound Indio Boulevard between Highway 111 and Requa was closed for several hours.
