Third period surge leads Firebirds to 4-0 win over Eagles in Game 2; series now tied 1-1

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) -- After losing Game 1 to the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday night, the Firebirds responded with a 4-0 victory in Game 2, leveling the best-of-5 Pacific Division Finals at 1-1.

The Firebirds scored all four goals in the third period and Nikke Kokko earned the shutout, stopping all 33 shots from Colorado.

GAME RECAP

After no goals from either team through two periods, the Firebirds came out flying in the final frame.

J.R. Avon, the Game 5 hero in Ontario, opened the scoring for Coachella Valley. It marked the Firebirds' first goal of the series and their first since Avon's double-overtime winner against the Reign.

Just one minute and 11 seconds later, Eduard Sale scored to make it 2-0 Firebirds.

Avon would add another late for his second of the game, giving Coachella Valley the 3-0 lead.

Molgaard added an empty-netter late to make it 4-0.

Coachella Valley improves to 6-4 this postseason, while Colorado drops to 6-2.

SERIES SHIFT

All square at 1-1 in this best-of-5 matchup, the remainder of the series will be played in Colorado.
