Firebirds sign goaltender Connor Murphy

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) - The Coachella Valley Firebirds continue to bolster their goaltender depth, signing Connor Murphy to a one-year deal.

Murphy, 27, joins the Firebirds after spending the 2025-26 season between the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Calgary Wranglers and the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush.

The Hudson Falls, NY native played in seven regular season games with Calgary, posting a 2-2-1 record, a 2.95 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage.

In the ECHL, Murphy played in 39 regular season games with Rapid City and earned Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors during the season. 

Murphy has played in 26 career AHL regular season games, all with the Wranglers, and has played in 82 career ECHL regular season games, all with Rapid City. 

Prior to his professional career, Murphy spent five collegiate seasons between Northeastern University and Union College. Murphy served as captain during his final season at Union while earning the team’s Most Valuable Player award in 2021-22 after setting a program single-season record with 1,060 saves. 

The Firebirds will open their season at home on Friday, Oct. 2.
