Excessive heat on the way

Today was very similar to yesterday with the high temperature in Palm Springs hitting 98°. The seasonal average is 90°. The winds began to pick up again this evening, with gusts tonight up to 40 mph on the valley floor. Stronger gusts persist through the San Gorgonio Pass.

Winds will weaken into tomorrow, with gusts from 10-15 mph out of the Northwest. Plenty of sunshine is in the forecast for the last double-digit day this week.

The triple digits return by Tuesday and we could see record-breaking temperatures Wednesday and Thursday.

Because temperatures are so far above seasonal average, an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for the Coachella Valley. It goes into effect Tuesday morning and stays through Friday evening. Daytime high temperatures could reach up to 110°.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for areas of western Riverside County from Tuesday morning through Friday evening also. Temperatures could reach 100°.

Remember that with excessive heat, there is the risk for heat illness. Make sure to drink plenty of water and stay in shaded or air conditioned areas when possible.
