Excessive heat remains for now, mild cool down ahead
High pressure is continuing to dominate over the southwest United States. This means temperatures will remain 5°-10° above-the seasonal average (109°) through the end of the work week.
Due to this above-normal temperature trend, an Excessive Heat Warning remains in place for the Coachella Valley through 8PM on Friday.
We started off the work week with humid and hot conditions as southeasterly winds pushed more monsoonal moisture into the area. As moisture continues to push east into Arizona, a gradual drying trend will occur for the valley.
This drying trend will be short-lived, however, as another boost of monsoonal moisture is expected by Sunday. This extra moisture will increase our chances for thunderstorm activity through the start of next week. Cooler, more seasonable temperatures are expected as a result of this increase of moisture as well.
