Drier conditions today after yesterday’s monsoon moisture surge

Drier conditions are expected for the start of the work week after yesterday's high elevation thunderstorms. A surge of monsoonal moisture and warm temperatures created the perfect opportunity for thunderstorm development. Thunderstorm activity was mostly reserved for local mountains and high desert communities but light rainfall did spill onto the valley floor as well.

Here is a look at storm activity on Sunday evening:

Drier air has reduced thunderstorm chances for now. This afternoon, thunderstorm activity could briefly return to the high desert before clearing out. Building high pressure is the reason behind this week's drying and warming trend.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise above average through the first half of the work week. Another surge of monsoon moisture will lower temperatures and increase the chances for thunderstorms near the end of the week. At this time, Sunday looks to be the best opportunity for thunderstorm activity.
