New Year’s Day Showers Tapering off Before Drier Friday on Deck

Scattered light showers across the Coachella Valley gradually taper off this evening. Any additional rainfall would be light however, with improving conditions overnight.

We're still looking at a Flood Watch for western Riverside County and SW San Bernadino County. A Flood Warning is in place for San Diego County.

But many of us stacked up some good rain totals between New Year's Eve and the first half of New Year's Day. Indio even broke a record for daily precipitation.

Friday will bring a brief break from the wet weather as weak high pressure moves over the west coast, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near or just slightly above seasonal.

Over the weekend, a series of weak but colder weather systems will move through the region. These systems will bring additional chances for light to occasionally moderate showers from Saturday into Sunday to Southern California--however models don't look real impressive for the Coachella Valley.

We'll have about a 20-30% chance for showers locally Sunday, down to about 10% on Monday. Unsettled wet weather could linger into the middle of next week, keeping temperatures cooler and periodic showers possible, but currently models are showing minimal precipitation if any here in the lower desert.
