Weather Insider: How local athletes stay safe in intense summer heat

There's no easy way to put it... the planet is warming. Since the 1970s, more than 85% of the United States now experiences more extremely hot summer days. While what constitutes an extremely hot day is relative to where you are, we are seeing more and more of them. Some places, like Miami, FL now see 50 more of these days. Here in Palm Springs, we see two dozen more of these extremely hot days compared to 50 years ago.

It's important to always practice heat safety when out and about in the heat. Part of heat safety is knowing what the symptoms of various heat illnesses are and what you can do to help. Some of that information can be seen below.
