Much more mild temperatures to come and stay

Temperatures today in the Coachella Valley are just around average to round out the month August. The average temperature for this time of year in Palm Springs is 107°.

Some big changes are on the way with our atmospheric patterns. The ridge of high pressure is starting to be pushed off toward our east thanks to an incoming trough of low pressure. Winds blow counterclockwise around troughs. These winds will bring cooler air from the north down into California and will be the main reason for the well below-average temperatures in the coming days.

All of the next seven days will feature temperatures significantly below the seasonal average. Most days will likely be at least five degrees below average! This will make for a lovely end of the week and a great holiday weekend! We are tracking a slow warm up as we enter next week, but temperatures will remain below average.
