First Alert Weather Alert: Gusty and dusty start to the festival season
A First Alert Weather Alert remains in place through this evening as gusty winds impact the Coachella Valley. As of 5 PM Sunday, both Gene Autry and Indian Canyon remain closed. Vista Chino and Ramon are both open. Check back for the latest updates on road closures.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect for the San Gorgonio Pass, extending into the northern valley until 2 AM Monday. Gusts could exceed 50 MPH along the mountain slopes.
Winds have picked back up for this afternoon and evening. Gusts around the valley floor are expected to exceed 30 MPH in throughout the evening. Prepare your property by closing patio awnings and umbrellas and securing lightweight items.
If you're heading out to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, consider wearing a bandana, sunglasses, etc. to avoid blowing dust and sand. The South Coast Air Quality Management District has allowed the Air Quality Alert to expire earlier today.
Some wet weather is also part of the Southland's forecast this weekend. Light rain west of the mountains, plus snow falling down to ~5,000' by Sunday afternoon. Some remaining show showers are possible throughout the evening. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for the San Bernardino County mountains through 8 PM this evening above 5,500 feet.
The passing of the low-pressure system will cool daytime high temperatures into the 70s for Sunday, but highs will quickly rebound next week into the 90s where they look to stay through next weekend.
