It's a gusty and dusty day here in the Coachella Valley! We've been tracking persistent breezy to gusty conditions throughout the day, leading to significant air quality concerns valley-wide. The Coachella Valley has the worst air quality in the country right now, "hazardous".

This was the air quality at 11pm:

These winds are helping to hold back today's temperatures, but we are still experiencing highs in the low 90s. A cooling trend will continue in the days ahead.

Today's winds are coming as a result of a relatively weak area of low pressure moving into Southern California. However, in the days ahead, the onshore flow will come from the large area of low pressure moving into the Pacific Northwest.

An Air Quality Alert is in place at least through 11 AM Thursday for the risk of blowing dust and sand.

A First Alert Weather Alert will remain in place through Friday as we continue to track breezy to gusty winds and air quality impacts. The winds are helping to cool us off as we fall back down into the 80s by Thursday. Milder temperatures are in store for the coming days.
