Pete Buttigieg to attend private fundraising event in Palm Springs Friday

Pete Buttigieg

News Channel 3 has learned that one of the top Democratic candidates running for President is making a stop in the valley Friday.

According to an email from a campaign organizer and a link to the Pete Buttigieg campaign, we have confirmed that the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana is planning to be in Palm Springs for a private campaign fundraising event. Tickets are still available for purchase here.

News Channel 3's Madison Weil spoke with one of the fundraiser organizers, Rich Weissman, on Friday morning ahead of the event. "We are a grassroots organization. We started about a month ago. We created 'Palm Springs for Pete,'" he said.

Weissman added the group contacted Buttigieg's campaign and they were delighted when he accepted the invitation to come to the Coachella Valley. "He's youthful. He's vibrant. He's not negative. He's a unifier," he said.

"Mayor Pete" will be here Friday November 15th, at a private residence with a reception at 4:30 p.m, and a meet and greet going from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is not open to the public or the press.

"For security reasons, the address and other details are not being given out by the campaign," said Weissman.

Organizers say Mayor Pete has tremendous support here in the Coachella Valley.

Full statement from Weissman:

The private donor event is not open to the public nor to the media. For security reasons, the address and other details are not being given out by the campaign. I'm sure you understand that this is simply a fundraiser as Pete is currently focused on Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. When we start to focus more on the California primary (which follows these initial 4 primaries), then I'm sure we'll see Pete here for public rallies, media events, etc. and I'll be sure to let you know about those in advance. I know that everyone is so excited about meeting Pete. For now, we'll have to wait a bit until he comes back for larger events with the public and the media. He is doing so well in these 4 initial states, that we need to stay focused on having him do well out of the gate so that he can come to California with momentum.
