Windy conditions ground balloon festival for first day
The Cathedral City Balloon Festival was grounded on Friday because of wind.
With hot air balloons on the ground, pilots are still trying to entertain people without taking to the sky.
4th Annual Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival
At the Westin Mission Hills Golf Course, hot air balloon pilots burned fuel for a flaming light display.“We are doing the best we can given what we can safely put on a show. It’s always upsetting when you can’t fly and you can’t inflate your balloon,” said Justin Wilkinson, hot air balloon pilot.
“We lose out on money and we lose out on our fun it’s a big disappointer for us, because we want to be up in the air. We don’t want to just be sitting on the ground, our balloons are meant to fly,” said Patrick Nilz, hot air balloon pilot.Pilots said they should know if they are going to be able to fly Saturday morning by 6:30 a.m. If they can’t go up then they will just have to wait for better conditions.
