Kelsey’s Heroes baseball team celebrate the holidays

Christmas came early for the boys and girls of Kelsey’s Heroes’ baseball league. The non-profit aims to develop the skills of special needs athletes. Sunday families enjoyed a day of baseball, dinner and a delivery from Santa too.

“She’s swinging on her own and hitting off the tee. She knows where to run and everything,” said Loni Mann, about her daughter, a Kelsey’s Heroes’ baseball player.

But Sunday, it wasn’t all about baseball. The special needs team celebrated the holidays as a family. Each player received at least two donated gifts each.

“I look at my daughter and she’s all excited seeing the kids out here. It means a lot,” Sherry Kensington, a baseball mom, added.

“It’s Christmas, kids, and toys. This is a labor of love for us and I’m glad. You see the smiling faces,” Daniel Watson said.

Watson is the president and founder of Kelsey’s Heroes. The program is named after his own special needs daughter. Kelsey Watson passed away when she was just 5 years old. Now Watson is making it his mission to give back to the special needs community.

“We just got a new family out here. An extra family. It’s not going to bring her back, but I’m sure she’s proud,” Watson said.
