Tracking this weekend’s heatwave

We're continuing to keep an eye on the large ridge of high pressure over the southern Unites States. This is the same system which has been hanging out in the desert southwest, but moved to the east a few days ago. It is starting to stretch back to the west. This will lead to warmer temperatures this weekend.

In anticipation of the higher heat, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch. We are expecting this to be upgraded to a warning in the coming days. Temperatures as high as 115°F will be possible, with the highest heat likely on Sunday.

We are still seeing temperatures around the seasonal average. Temperature will rise as we approach the weekend and the Excessive Heat Watch. We are currently tracking another spurt of moisture next week which will help keep temperatures close to average.
