Restoration Companies share tips for homeowners who experienced flooding from Hilary
Some parts of the valley are recovering well from Hilary, while other areas like Palm Desert’s Spanish Walk neighborhood are still dealing with a major disaster.
Several crews and bulldozers were clearing mud off the streets, while restoration companies were taking care of the damage indoors.
Technicians tell us this flooding has the same water cleanliness as a sewage backup, and emphasized the importance of staying safe while cleaning.

"The pathogens and bacteria in this water is a very high content. So it's a very dangerous situation. You want to make sure you take care of yourself. Any material, building materials that it touches, needs to be disposed of. You want to wear personal protective equipment, an N95, mask, gloves, that kind of thing," said Scott Johnson with Paul Davidson Restoration.
Alexis Mullinix, a resident in the Spanish Walk complex has been cleaning up flooding and mud inside of her apartment for the past week.
"I woke up and I put my feet into about two inches of water throughout my entire house. My goal in the moment was just get my daughter outside, get her to a safe place. So yeah, I opened the door and water just came flooding in. So it was rough, emotional, and you're just not sure what to do with all your stuff and you know, grab what you can and get out," said Mullinix.
She tells us she's a single mother who is trying to figure out how to take care of the damages that are estimated to cost upwards of $20,000. You can donate to Mullinix's gofundme here.
We learned that many of the residents that were impacted do not have flood insurance, leaving them to clean up themselves or pay out of pocket.
