A local synagogue leader is hosting a prayer gathering in Rancho Mirage in response to the lives lost in Israel over the weekend.

Starting at 5 p.m.

The Rabbi of the Chabad of Rancho Mirage shares that there will be readings of the Torah, prayers for Israeli soldiers, and the overall idea of hate.

"No one would gain more from a defeat of the enemy than the people who are living under them," says Rabbi Shimon Posner. "We don't want their children to grow up to be suicide bombers. Not because they're suicide bombers against us. But for them, it's no good. This has brought nothing but disaster."

He says the goal of the event is to strengthen the Jewish community.

"There have always been people, nations, empires, that have risen against us to do us harm," says Rabbi Posner. "It's as old as their people itself. We're talking about 1000s of years, well over 3000 years, that they cannot abide the fact that there are Jews, that there are happy and prosperous Jews. It makes no difference how many gifts we give the world. Hate needs no reason. We're not going to allow that to define us. We're going to continue to do the good that we do. We're going to continue to do the work that God wants us to do. And it's only a matter of time until they come around or they cease to exist."

The event is open to the public.

"We do ask them to be patient because we have security," says Rabbi Posner. "It might take them a little bit to get inside. But they should not be alarmed by that."
