Long-awaited Mecca park opens this weekend

KESQ

Mecca residents are excited for this weekend's grand opening of a long-awaited community park.

The Mecca Sports Complex has been under construction since mid-2022. It's a more than six-acre green space that will offer a number of activities for children and adults.

The park has multiple-use grass areas, a lit walking path, exercise stations and so much more.

County officials say that this has been in the works for a very long time

"The park is located in a busy community area, right next to the Boys and Girls Club, the community clinic, and the public library," said Veronica Casper, Riverside County's facilities operations manager.

The community is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony that will feature a wide variety of free activities this Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Mecca Sports Complex is located off of Avenue 66 and Hammond Road.
