Local Bars and Nightclubs will Soon be Required to Provide Drug-Testing Kits
Starting July 1, a new California law will require bars and nightclubs to provide drug-testing kits to patrons in an effort to crack down on drink spiking.
The tests will help customers know if their drink has been spiked with substances such as GBH, rohypnol, ketamine and other 'date rape drugs.'
John Stokkeland, a bartender at Dick's on Arenas, tells News Channel 3 the positive impact this new law will have.
“I’ve been working in this industry for quite some time and I know it can be a problem especially on the busy holiday weekends when just like a lot of hustle and bustle happening. People aren’t quite so mindful of their cocktails… I think it’ll be a positive impact really. People will feel like one step safer, like one less chance of having something foul over the evening."

Drink spiking disproportionally affects women and the LGBTQ+ community.
The new law aims to prevent sexual assault and other consequences of spiking.
