Indio Police Department operating out of new high-tech dispatch center, improving community safety
The Indio Police Department is officially operating out of their new Dispatch Center. The project has been in the works for over 20 years.
The state-of-the-art facility features cutting-edge technology that enhances resident safety and supports dispatchers during high-pressure calls.
"Our dispatchers are our lifeline. They’re the ones that dispatch our people to their calls, they send people to help, they have to multitask, they have to make sure that all the support gets to the officers so that they can do their job,” says Indio PD Chief Brian Tully.
Some updates that the dispatch center brings include: high-speed computers, Valley-wide communications systems and campus-wide security cameras.
The new communications system allows for dispatchers to share information with all public safety departments across the Valley. Indio PD can now request assistance or issue warnings directly from their radios. Updated computers help to improve response time with real-time data and user-friendly interfaces.
The building is earthquake-resistant and has its own power generator, enhancing community safety during natural disasters.
This facility is expected to be operating well into the future. "We’ve been able to realize this kind of a city needs this space for future growth into the next 50 years,” says Chief Brian Tully.
