Santa Ana’s Weakening, Heat Holding Steady for the Desert

It’s a warm and breezy evening across the Coachella Valley, with daytime highs once again reaching the mid-90s. That's about 5-10 degrees above average for late October.

Strong high pressure over the entire West coast and California continues to dominate our week, keeping skies clear and humidity dry. Gusty Santa Ana winds have eased a bit since this morning but remain locally breezy at times, mainly near the passes. There is a Wind Advisory for parts of Ventura County and the Santa Clarita valley--however the Coachella Valley is not included in that. Very dry + gusty Santa Anas = prime fire weather, especially just to the Northwest of us.

As we move into midweek, our gorgeous weather and warm temps hold steady in the mid 90s through Wednesday. Wednesday is when most locations see peak heat before our ridge pushes east over the Rockies--however the desert stays pretty consistent in the mid 90s into the weekend.

By Thursday, onshore flow returns back to the mix which will bring a gradual cooling for valleys west of the mountains into Friday. Regardless, temperatures remain above seasonal norms, with plenty of sunshine. We'll see some slightly cooler temperatures (still above average), but dropping into the low 90s by next Tuesday as high pressure begins to weaken.
