Small-business owner shares his struggle applying for PPP loan
Several businesses here in the valley have been applying for federal loans for weeks to help keep them afloat.
How would you describe the process?
"Miserable," said Barnes.
Randy Barnes expresses his frustration when trying to apply for federal funding through a larger bank.
“Slow, I couldn’t talk to anybody," said Barnes. "Everything had to be done online."
Barnes said he would check his email multiple times a day to see if there was hope on its way.
“This place has been in Rancho Mirage for 54 years and I couldn’t imagine this not being here for the next 54 years," said Barnes. "So it was alot of pressure and stress that I put on myself.”
Randy Barnes tells News Channel 3 after waiting 7 long weeks for his PPP loan he finally got his funds last Thursday.
And if you are in a similar situation as Barnes, CEO of Bank of Southern California, Nathan Rogge weighs in on what you can do if you are waiting.
“If you are waiting now 6 to 7 weeks from whatever bank you are at, you either need to re-apply with them," said Rogge."You need to go to another bank because it should not be backlogged at this point."
Rogge said its important to start an conversation with the bank about the different programs offered for small businesses.
“You need to match up your businesses to a bank that tends to do the lending you need," said Rogge. "Thats a quick interview over the phone, I would call the local branch, I would not call a 1-800 number.”
Barnes offers his advice.
“Don’t give up," said Barnes.
