Tour Bus and Semi Truck Crash, Injuring 17 in Whitewater
Seventeen people suffered minor injuries when a tour bus and a semi truck crashed on Interstate 10 Saturday, causing the truck to ignite.
The crash was reported at 4:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway just west of State Route 62, according to Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.
The 17 victims, all from the bus, were hospitalized with minor injuries, she said. The truck driver was uninjured.
According to initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the tour bus was rear-ended by the truck.
Following the crash, a diesel fuel leak sparked a fire in the truck that firefighters eventually doused, the CHP said.
The crash prompted a nearly two-hour closure of lanes three and four, but all lanes were reopened by 9:23 a.m, according to the CHP.
The crash was under investigation.
