Local police department surprises nurse with car
A nurse who was struck and injured by a drunk driver while helping police with a different DUI investigation was surprised with a new car from the Cathedral City Police Department Saturday night.
KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 first shared Cherylyn Daves’ story back in March. Daves suffered a broken leg and bruising all over her body in the March 7th incident. She was also left without a vehicle.
“I am a mobile phlebotomist, I can’t work without one,” she said.
Daves’ husband is disabled and she is also his caretaker. Without a car, she would not be able to care for him either.
“I can’t get him to doctors appointments without one,” Daves said. “When the doctor releases me with a car, I am able to go back to work. I am able to care for my husband and my family.”
Daves was surprised during the Battle of the Badges Charity event at Festival Lawn.
A GoFundMe page was created to help Daves with her living and medical expenses while she recovers.
