Earthquake Alert: Early Warning

What would you do if you knew an earthquake was about to hit in five seconds? How would you brace yourself? How would you prepare?

When shifting plate tectonics decide to send trembles shaking through your day, you probably didn’t see it coming, well, unless you are a cat named Soupy or a dog named Bear. But the concept of being entirely ambushed by the ground below may be on the way out, at least to a certain extent.

Shake Alert, a system being deployed across California, Oregon, and Washington, is designed to give people in earthquake zones a few brief seconds to prepare for an incoming quake.
