Locals prep for Father’s Day celebrations

Father’s Day is one day away and millions of Americans will be celebrating. It’s also expected to be a big shopping holiday to get gifts for dad.

It’s the ultimate day for dads across America, with many kids showing them some love.

“It’s really great. They’re a huge part of our lives and it’s kind of weird,” 13-year-old Jessie Sillett of Los Angeles, said.

“It feels good to have a special day to to honor your dad and I’m sure we’ll celebrate when we get back, but they do so much for our family,” 13-year-old Imelia Russell of Los Angeles said.

“I love my dad. He lives in Arizona. I’m going to be honoring him by giving him a phone call, and I can’t go to Arizona but I wish I could,” Julio Sanchez of Indio, said.

According to the National Retail Federation, everyone in the country is estimated to spend 15.3 billion dollars for Father’s Day, with an average of $188 per person.

One father says to some degree fathers get the short end of the stick when it comes to gifts compared to mother’s day.

“Dads don’t get the flowers,” Raymond Dennis of Los Angeles said. “They don’t get the fancy things that mom’s get. we love the moms but dad’s are standing up. The one’s that are dads.”

Some are planning to have some family time. while one daughter she just wants to keep it simple.

“Heart and a keychain pin,” Melanie Dennis said.

No matter how the appreciation is being shown to dads, the love from the family will always be there.
