Well in the Desert keeps homeless hydrated

Well in the Desert is giving back to the homeless this summer with food and water donations to the homeless and families in need.

The non-profit in Palm Springs is able to serve hundreds of people each week with donations from the community and food from the FIND Food Bank.

Food distribution manager Jerry Brownlee has a passion for serving others after knowing what it’s like to be on the receiving end of food donations himself.

“It’s important to me because I was on the street myself,” he said. “I go through this organization and I received the sandwiches and I received the help that I’m giving now.”

Brownlee oversees the food distribution at Well in the Desert with weekly pass outs of water and food to residents. Their outreach programs offers bottled water, fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and canned goods at distribution sites and cooling centers across Coachella Valley.

“We want to make sure everyone is hydrated. We have an outreach program that we personally go to the location to some areas where homeless people are who can’t get to our location,” Brownlee said. “We give them plenty of water.”

The Well in the Desert is asking for donations online or in-person at their office and volunteer help with their food distribution teams.
