Three juveniles arrested for shoplifting, fleeing police

Three juvenile shoplifting suspects were taken into custody this afternoon after their getaway vehicle was involved in a non-injury crash, police said.

The theft occurred at 2:28 p.m. at a business in the Cathedral City Marketplace shopping center at 34459 Date Palm Drive, according to Cmdr. Julio Luna. The underage suspects, whose ages were not disclosed, fled in a vehicle that traveled south on Date Palm, then east on Highway 111, heading out of the city, he said.

Cathedral City police and Riverside County sheriff’s deputies took part in a search for the vehicle. At some point, it was involved in a crash and the suspects fled but were arrested nearby by officers in the area.

Luna said the juveniles were taken to the Cathedral City Police Department for questioning and would later be released to their parents or guardians.
