Four people displaced from apartment following garage fire

Four people were forced out of their apartment after a garage caught on fire in Desert Hot Springs on Tuesday morning.

Cal Fire, Riverside firefighters said they responded to reports of a structure fire on the 66,000 block of Eighth Street just before 5:30 a.m. Firefighters reported a garage was on fire inside an apartment complex.

The fire was contained within 20 minutes. Fire officials said the fire spread to two other garages, causing damage to all three. Two adults and two kids were evacuated from their home after their apartment unit suffered smoke damage.

In total, the fire is estimated to have cost $40,000 in damages. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
