I-10 Construction project causes delays, funded by California’s gas tax
A pavement project is underway on the I-10E, between Jackson and State Route 86.
Cal Trans has rescheduled their construction hours between 3 p.m and 4 a.m to avoid heavy congestion during morning commute hours.
It’s a 17 million dollar project funded by California’s gas tax. Whether or not to keep the gas tax is on the November ballot.
“Smoother roads would lead to less maintenance on our cars, definitely, it’s good thing. People don’t want to spend more money, but other countries, they spend a lot more on their roads and their better quality and they last longer,” said James Schoneman of Brawley, who had just passed through the traffic.
The project is expected to last ten more days, and then crews will work on westbound lanes. Cal trans expects the entire project to be complete by the end of the year.
If SB 1 is repealed, future, similar construction projects will be jeopardized, according to Cal trans.
