Suspect remains at large in Palm Springs bar shooting

A man suspected of shooting two men at a tiki-themed gay bar in Palm Springs early Sunday morning remains at large today.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old with neck tattoos, Palm Springs police said. He was last seen fleeing the 2300 block of North Palm Canyon wearing a hat, sweatshirt and sweatpants in all black.

“At this time we do not have any indication this is a hate crime based on the overall investigation,” read statement given to News Channel 3 by PSPD.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to reports of two men shot at Toucans Tiki Lounge, a gay bar on North Palm Canyon, police said. Upon arrival, police found the two men with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and transported the victims to a local hospital.

“The preliminary investigation revealed there was a fight inside the location that eventually led outside,” according to police. “At that point, a shooting occurred near the parking lot.”

Authorities did not immediately describe what prompted the shooting.

Police said several witnesses also fled the scene prior to their arrival and ask that anyone who witnessed the shooting please call the Palm Springs Police Department at (760) 778-8411.
