Wrong-way driver causes I-10 wreck
A wrong-way driver was not seriously injured after a short stretch which ended with a head-on crash near Coachella.
The California Highway Patrol said a motorist got onto Interstate 10 westbound but was driving in the eastbound lanes at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday east of Coachella at the Chiriaco Summit freeway exit.
Police reportedly tried to set up spike strips to stop the car, traveling at 70-miles an hour.
The driver eventually reportedly slammed head-on into a big-rig truck that was hauling cars near Frontage Road at 1:38 a.m.
The CHP website said nobody was hurt, but eastbound freeway traffic was brought to a stop for a time.
The roadway was back open again to traffic later Tuesday morning.
