Man arrested for evading police, parole violation in Palm Springs
A Palm Springs man was arrested early Friday morning for evading police and a parole violation.
At 12:14 a.m. PSPD officers responded to the 300 block of Rosa Parks Road for a report of shots fired in the area. As officers were sweeping the area, they encountered a vehicle driving around without headlights on, which is in violation of California vehicle code, according to a PSPD news release.
When the driver of the suspect vehicle spotted the patrol car, he abruptly turned the car around and attempted to flee police, violating multiple traffic laws in the process.
The vehicle ultimately came to a stop on the roadway and officers took the suspect, 30-year-old Tomayo Martinez, into custody on suspicion of felony reckless evading and a Post-Release Community Supervision violation.
Martinez was found in possession of a firearm holster, but no firearm. According to PSPD, it is not known if Martinez is connected to the reports of gunshots, but urges the public to contact the agency at 760-323-8116 if they find an unattended firearm or if they have any additional information on the incident.
