Water leak buckles road, slows traffic in Cathedral City
A water leak in Cathedral City caused some road damage and slowed area traffic on Friday.
The leak was reported this morning on East Palm Canyon Drive. Officials believe the damage is at least 50 to 75 feet deep.
“I think I counted about four areas where water is not even bubbling, it’s coming up, it’s a very steady flow coming out of the asphalt and the planters on the side of the road. So it’s causing covering a pretty significant area,” said Cathedral City Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Allison. “These mains down East Palm Canyon, I believe there are 36 mains, water mains, so we could have a pretty significant leak down there. Could take them a little bit of time to repair it.”
As of Friday evening, the cause of the leak is still undetermined.
Officials are asking residents to avoid the area while they work on repairs.
