Officers Investigating Crash Find Dead Body Near Anza

An officer investigating a non-injury crash Friday on an Anza highway found a dead man in an SUV that had gone over the side and down 100 feet, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The original crash involving an overturned Toyota Corolla on state Route 371, near state Route 74, was reported about 9 a.m., said CHP Officer Ron Thatcher.

The investigating officer spotted a 2001 Pontiac SUV over the side and called in the fire department.

Investigators determined that the SUV had been traveling west on 371 when it went off the road and overturned several times. The two crashes appeared to be unrelated, said Thatcher.

The dead motorist is believed to have been from Poway but his name was not immediately released.

The crash is under investigation.
