Family of Suspect and Victim Say Both Are Good People
A family pleads for their father Salvador Contreras, 46, the suspect in Sunday night’s shooting to turn himself. Police say he shot and killed his ex-wife, their mother 46 year-old Rebecca Zavala. At the same time, they say the victim, their mother was a good person and not an alcoholic or drug user. Neighbors told News Channel 3 that was the case, but their daughter Kristina Contreas says, “My mom was a great person, we have suffered a lot through this, my mom wasn’t a wild person, she loved her family and her job she didn’t have a drug or alcohol problem.
At a time when Police stilld don’t have a motive, it leaves the family with more questions than answers. Contreas says, “I never thought it was in his blood to hurt my mother or my brothers. We all have issues, to think you have to turn to a gun and take a persons life, I never thought it could happen.
Salvador Contreras is still on the run according to Cathedral City Police. Conteras is described as a 5’9″, hispanic maile, weighing 230lbs. with short black hair, a mustache and several tattoos. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
