Prosecutors File Murder Charges After Deadly Fight

A first-degree murder charge was filed today against a 21- year-old Indio resident accused of shooting a man while intervening in a domestic dispute.

Alejandro Sandoval also faces a charge of illegally possessing an assault weapon in connection with the shooting of 39-year-old Fred Erick Massie.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Dale R. Wells set bail at $1.5 million and ordered Sandoval to return to court on April 26 for a felony settlement conference.

Massie was shot about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 81200 block of Geranium Street. He was arguing with another resident of the house when he was shot by Sandoval, who was reportedly trying to intervene in the dispute, said Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department.
