Packed House at Palm Springs Tea Party
With signs in hand, thousands of Tea Party Members spent Thursday at Palm Desert Civic Park with one message, lower taxes and smaller government. The Palm Desert Civic Center Ampitheater was filled with Tea Party members. Local Tea Party member, Tricia Bechtholdt from Rancho Mirage says, “My main concern is that I’m not being represented by the government, they are treading on the Constitution.”
The main goal announced at the Tea Party was to get the word out and vote out members of Congress who don’t share their position. Over 200 Tea Parties were held across California alone. This is Steve Kaylor’s second year at the Tea Party, he says, “I was here last year, and this is twice the amount of people this year, it’s a great turnout, I hope people get the message and vote in November.”
Recent polls show 1/3 of Americans agree with the Tea Party’s positions. The movement is making an impact, in the fall, at least six senate races involved major Tea Party support. It is not just Democratic politicians who are on notice, so are some Republicans for supporting policies such as the bailout of Wall Street banks that cost billions.
