Indio Police Look For Robbery Suspect After High-Speed Chase

A stick-up man who initially eluded police in Indio was behind bars today, but a second suspect remained at large, police said.

Tony Juarez Valenzuela, 19, was arrested in the robbery in the 45700 block of Clinton Street reported about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

The robber demanded a wallet from a man at gunpoint, he said.

The suspect fled in a black Lincoln Town Car that a patrol officer spotted a short time later, Guitron said.

A chase ensued, but police made a stop at Fillmore Street and Avenue 60 in Thermal and arrested Valenzuela, he said.

A passenger in the car got away, Guitron said. The suspect was described as a 20-something Latino wearing dark clothing. Police believe he may be armed, Guitron said.

The victim was unhurt, he said.

Anyone with more information about the robbery was asked to call police at (760) 391-4057.
