Big Rig Crash Blocks I-10 Traffic

Interstate 10 is clear again Sunday after a truck rolled over Saturday afternoon, blocking multiple lanes throughout the night.

The California Highway Patrol says the big rig rolled over near the Monterey Avenue exit on the westbound side of the freeway around 3:30 p.m.

A small explosion caused a fire, which spread from the truck to the center divider.

A witness says the driver was able to escape the vehicle. There’s no word if the driver suffered any injuries.

The crash broke fifty feet of guardrail, and caused traffic backups on both sides of the freeway.

The CHP has ordered a long-term closure of the two inside lanes of the eastbound side of the freeway. One lane on the westbound side was temporarily closed, but has reopened.

One lane was reopened around 9 p.m. Saturday night, while the final closure was not lifted until midnight.
