3-D Movies Drawing Big Audiences And Money
Amed Woo is going to see the movie “How To Train Your Dragon” with his younger sister. He’s going for the 2-D version because that extra dimension costs a bit too much.
“It?s just like a regular movie just the price are way up there,? he said. ?I think its ridiculous.”
The price of a 3-D movie has gone up 8% nationwide since last month.
A manager at Mary Pickford Theater says they raised ticket prices about 50 cents last summer. A full priced 3-D movie costs $13.50 for an adult.
The theater remains about a dollar or two cheaper than others in the valley.
The extra charge usually comes from the glasses. They cost about 3 to 4 dollars extra. Some theaters let your keep them. Others don’t.
You’ll spend a few bucks more if you buy your tickets online or from a kisosk.
Then, there’s the candy, popcorn and drinks.
“Where they get you is the condiments,? said movie-goer and former theater worker Jesse Amier. ?It?s more than the actual movie itself.”
“Just 5 of us, and we ended up paying just for the entrance like $50 or $60,? said another movie-goer. ?Plus the popcorn. It’s like $30 more, so it’s getting expensive.”
While it’s too much for some like Woo, some say the prices are fair for the in-your-face action 3-D movies offer.
“People seem to still spend it,? said an occasional movie-goer. ?So as long as they?re going to spend it, the theaters are full, they’re not going to reduce anything.”
With more and more 3-D movies slated to release this year, it seems the technology is here to stay.
But if they’re really too much money to see in the theater — you can always wait.
