House Fire Kills Woman, Injures Teen In Landers

San Bernardino County firefighters responded to a house fire call, Thursday, to find the home fully engulfed in flames and a 17-year-old suffering burns.

The fire broke out around 7:10pm Thursday night, and was reported by a pastor that lives nearby and saw the smoke and flames. The fire department tells News Channel 3 the pastor went to the house, and cared for the teen, driving her to High Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree. She was later transported to the burn unit at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

Once the fire was out, firefighters found the body of a dead 47-year-old woman inside. Firefighters say she may have been trying to save several small animals inside the home, including those in cages.

The home was destroyed. Investigators will now work to find a cause of the fire, and see if the home had working smoke detectors.

The name of the deceased woman will be kept private until the coroner’s office releases it.
