‘Lago Vista Fire’ Threatens Homes And Ranches In Valyermo

Authorities say a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest has spurred evacuations after surging to 80 acres within one hour.

Forest service dispatcher Sonia Valdivia says the blaze, which is now dubbed the Lago Vista Fire, in northeast Los Angeles County near the town of Valyermo started Friday at about 3 p.m.

She says evacuations have been ordered along Big Pines Highway, but did not know how many homes or people are involved. KCAL-TV showed horses fleeing stables in the area.

Valdivia says 10 engines and a water-dropping helicopter are responding.

So far, crews have it 40 percent contained.

An Angeles National Forest firefighter has been injured battling that blaze, according to crews at the scene.

The firefighter apparently fell about 50 feet. The extent of injuries is not immediately known, but the firefighter is expected to be transported by ground ambulance.

County fire inspector Frederic Stowers says units from his department have been sent to help.

There is no word on any cause.
