Slow Election Returns For Riverside County
There are still some very close races hat could be decided by the mail-in and provisional ballots left to be counted.
This after another very long night of counting that stretched into Wednesday afternoon before the county filed its last election day report with the Secretary of State’s office.
In fact, Riverside County was again one of the slowest counties to report election results in California, if not the nation.
Although, over 200,000 mail-in ballots had been counted and were scheduled to be posted on the internet by 8:15 pm, it wasn’t until nearly an hour later that those initial results were finally released.
The hold up was apparently two-fold. People voting in the lobby of the registrar’s office didn’t finish casting their ballots until 8:35 pm and there was a computer glitch regarding precinct data.
In light of previous election night problems at the registrars office, the county board of supervisors is losing its patience with Registrar Barbara Dunmore.
“Our tolerance level is gone and I am sure a strong working majority of the board, I think it’s gone,” said Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley. “So we gotta correct this, can’t have this anymore,”
At next Tuesdays board of supervisors meeting, supervisors are expected to call for a review of the slow election results.
