Body of ‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Found Near Highway 74
A body found in a remote area near Pinyon Pines was a contestant on “The Bachelorette” TV show in 2009, it was reported today.
Deputies found a body about 11 a.m. Wednesday off Highway 74, but the Riverside County Coroner’s Office had yet to formally identify the man, said Deputy Melissa Nieburger of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
But friends of the family told KGTV in San Diego that the body found off the highway was Julien Hug, a San Diego resident and prominent restaurateur.
Hug’s father, Bertrand, told the news station that his son was on his way to help manage the family’s newest restaurant in Palm Desert, Augusta Modern. He was last heard from two days ago when his cell phone went dead while he was driving along Highway 74, the elder Hug said.
The cause of death was not immediately known, according to the sheriff’s department.
Hug graduated from Torrey Pines High School in 1993. His family owns the well-known Mille Fleurs in Rancho Santa Fe and Bertrand at Mister A’s by Balboa Park.
