Rancho Mirage Holds Off On Pot Decision

The future of medical marijuana in Rancho Mirage is still up in the air.

Thursday, the city council voted unanimously to postpone a decision on whether to allow dispensaries.

The council will take up the issue again at it’s next meeting on November 18th.

Last month, the city council extended a moratorium against the sale and distribution of pot within city limits.

“It’s not an easy task. If they need more time to make this the best dispensary possible, then they should do that. This is a very serious matter,” said Rick Pantele, a medical marijuana advocate and Rancho Mirage resident.

“I’m going to put trust and faith in the city council. I have to be optimistic and say they’re investigating it further and saying ‘how come other cities can’t do it?,'” said Rancho Mirage resident Rick Smith, who opposes dispensaries in the city.

The council took up the medical marijuana issue after three collectives opened in the city — without proper licensing.
