Alternative Energy Summit Kicks Off In Palm Springs
Environmentalist and author Bill McKibben will kick off the Palm Springs Sustainability Summit tonight with a lecture on alternative energy and localized economies.
The summit, in its third year, is set for 6 p.m. at the Palm Springs Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros.
McKibben, who was a staff writer for the New Yorker in the 1980s, led the organization 350.org, which coordinated 5,200 simultaneous rallies against global warming in 181 countries in 2009.
He has been described by Time Magazine as “the world’s best green journalist.”
Before the lecture, Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet will announce the winners of the Sustainability Stewardship and Leadership Awards, given in recognition of contributions to environmental stewardship in the city.
