4.9 Magnitude Quake Hits Southland
A magnitude-4.9 earthquake that stuck near Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico, this morning was felt in El Centro but apparently caused no damage north of the border.
“It felt like it was rolling the building for a few seconds,” El Centro Police Department dispatcher Kristi Davis told City News Service. “It was roller, not a shaker. Just a couple seconds.
“I see it was a 4.9 and we sometimes get calls on ones that big. But we didn’t get any 911 calls on this one.”
At 4:52 a.m., the magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck about 20 miles south southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico, according to preliminary measurements from the U.S. Geological Survey.
It is apparently an aftershock from the magnitude-7.2 quake on Easter.
The quake, which was followed up by a magnitude-3.2 temblor at 5:47 a.m. in the same general vicinity, was not felt in San Diego, said Sgt. Ray Battrick, a San Diego police watch commander.
