Palm Springs City Manager To Release Warm Sands Gay Sex Sting Review
Palm Springs City Manager David Ready is close to releasing his report detailing what exactly happened during the Warm Sands gay sex sting in 2009. “It’s going to talk about the overall findings about what occurred and what didn’t occur and then recommendations going forward,” said Ready. The report will be released on Tuesday or on Tuesday Dec. 27 because of Christmas break and furloughs.
An officer and Chief David Dominquez are suspected of using anti-gay slurs during the undercover investigation. Video taped by officers is said to have the evidence confirming the accusations.
It’s been been six months since the Palm Springs city attorney had to take over the investigation because it came to light that Chief Dominquez may have been one of the officers using the gay slurs.
“It’s important we come to the truth and the correct conclusion and that we take the appropriate action,” said Ready.
Because of confidentiality laws in California Dominquez isn’t able to comment on the investigation. “I’ll be coming out with a statement once the city manager releases the report,” said Dominquez on the steps of City Hall on Monday.
Defense attorneys for some of the men arrested in the sting subpoened 14 people including the chief, police officers, the city’s attorney and the city manager. In January, all will be required to appear in criminal court. The suspect’s lawyers want the charges dropped.
